Concern about gifting policy

Okay, I've read much on everyone's opinion-rules regarding gifting neighbors. However, for whatever reason, I'm still a little uncertain or even confused about how best to maintain good relations with those that are not from this forum; even though they may be and I am unaware. Yes, I do a search from time to time but generally don't find them here.

I give priority to those here, especially those who have helped me so far and will return F20. I am only on level 25 with no space program.

I currently have 140 neighbors with around 25 or so from this forum. I get gifted things from both members and non-members which at times are not needed. I'm assuming that I simply return those items, is this correct? AND what do I do when people keep sending me something that I no longer need, even though I've changed my game name? Yesterday I needed power source for an upgrade but got 6 more than required; I simply returned them. BUT, if members send me these, should I be returning F20 to everyone?

Again, what's most important is members of this forum, but when any request is met with an oversupply of what I asked for, how best do I handle that?

Thanks to all who have helped so much ( you know who you are). Cheers!

how best to maintain good relations with those that are not from this forum;

Simply said, for me, you can't really "maintain good relations" with them. How can you do that without communicating with each other?

If you are also in the Airport City Facebook Groups, then maybe you can communicate with people there. Your game, your choice.

I do my best to return gift with items they need if they send me items that I need (which mentioned in my game name). If they give me something I don't need and I can't use, why should I return them? This is my policy. You can do whatever you see fit.

But from what I notice from forum members, they normally send items I need, and I return to them items they need. Which are all in the game name itself, so easy to manage.

However, from time to time, I have requested specific buildings need (like you, for example, needed Power Source). Then I do a specific agreement with the person I'm trading it with. I don't put my buildings needs in my game name.

I agree completely with @VdW9 . it's pointless to put in your name build items. just try setting a trade here: https://www.airportcitygame.com/forums/trading-discussion.54/
Sometimes (most times?) the sender really do not want to receive those construction items but will be glad to help you in return of F20 or some flight or repair item

non-forum neighbors send you gifts for 2 reasons: either to complete the daily task or to GET the item they sent (for example, if they need Flight Catering they will send you that as it's automatically set by the game for return, except certain building items) so you don't have to think too much about that.

Can you explain a little more here? I don't think that any gift is automatically set for a return. The neighbors that I send gifts to should be getting what I select and I should be getting what they select to send to me in return. There is no automatic computer return of the sent gift to the sender that I know of.

I think kelvint23 means that when you click accept on a gift, the default gift when the send back button appears is the gift that the person sent you.

I also started a thread on this a few weeks ago. If I don't get what I want from a non-forum member, they either get what I feel like sending or I just won't send them anything.

That makes sense, thanks for your input.

and don't forget you may not be able to send back the exact gift anyway! -so for example, if someone sends you an item for a building that you have requested, you will receive it fine. However, most buildings need 4 different items collecting, and each of us will only have 1 of the 4. When you hit send, it returns the item for that building you can gift, regardless of what was sent. Example might help make sense - the Hotel needs Do not Disturb signs, Bath Towels, Disposable Shampoo and All-Inclusive bracelet. I can make arrangements with lots of neighbours to send me whichever item they can gift, but in my list all I have is all inclusive bracelets. Whatever they send, if I click return they will get the bracelets.

Don't know if this helps, suspect not LOL. Bottom line if its in their game name, that's what you send regardless of what they send you, otherwise I send fuel 20 as everyone needs that.

Some items sent to you about building needs (excluding games and activities) are just what they need. Usually I will look at advertisements to solve these problems.
I will choose 1-2 of the 20 gifts to return, because each user starts from a low level.
Because everyone and every user have difficulties and need friends, both in games and in real life.

I'm sensing that the easiest way to manage this is to have forum neighbors only, that way we can simply send each other what is needed. This is what I will eventually do. Appeciate everyone's help and suggestions. I must admit I'm still confused but that's okay, I've entered a new world :)

don't worry, you're not alone. I've been playing this game for 4 years and certain things I still don't know how it works. The gifting system I was just told last year lol :ROFLMAO:

Genuinely, that is the answer. I have 165 neighbours, and only 4 are non-forum. 2 never gift, but have 6 planetariums each, 2 gift daily but use their name.

Yes, this is what I tend to do with non-forum neighbors, return what is sent to me if not needed.
Regardless of any gifting concerns, getting rid of non forum neighbours isn’t a bad idea - you’ll regret having them once you start regular space launches (search “Hijack” if you want more info about that).

I’ve had my gifting policy in my forum signature for a few years. The idea of sending somebody something that you want is completely nuts. Returning to these players is even crazier. You get junk and then waste a valuable trading tool by returning the same. If they send you a landing lamp (what they want) and you have >100, do you return a LL or send an Ear Plug (what you want but they can’t use)? It’s a vicious circle of waste. If someone sends me something I don’t want, they get no return. If they persist, then I send them something really obscure eg. Stapler. 9/10 times they stop. The 1/10 gets booted.

As advised above, building items are often better arranged via the trading threads, especially when you are approaching the point of having enough items. Two reasons- if it’s in your game name, you can’t control if one person or 8 people send the item. The server often takes time to update your changed game name on their accounts so there’s always the issue of receiving an excess. The second reason is that a large percentage of building upgrade items are limited to only the players doing the same building level upgrade that you are doing (eg Town Hall has 11 levels. If your building is at level 8, then only other players at TH lvl8 can send lvl9 upgrade items and with 4 different items needed, if you only require one item type, the small number of those players is reduced by another 75%).
Most buildings that need extra items require 4 item types - chasing just one of these limits your audience to 25% straight off. If you have a building item in your game name, you can probably assume that 99% of those that send you that item don’t want it returned.

The ability to change game names has only been around for a short while. It’s made things much easier, in general. Before we could do that, ALL forum members used to have detailed and regularly updated (sometimes several times a day ) signatures. Proactive traders would check every player’s signature before sending them a gift. It was a great way to list all of your needs rather than just rely the two or 3 acronyms that you can fit in your game name. It’s used a lot less now, but still a highly recommended practice to plan ahead and many older players will still take a look if they can’t return what’s in your game name.

When I got a power source from you yesterday, I frowned but quickly realised this was all part of the learning curve that we’ve all been through, and you did exactly the right thing afterwards - search for an answer and then ask the question if the search comes up short ;).

I’d rather get nothing than something I don’t need, especially when it means you’ve wasted a trading opportunity to get something from someone else. Most higher level players will agree that their games aren’t as reliant on the massive volume and variety of gifts as they were earlier on. We also have a bigger network of players to gift with and often have support accounts to help out with volume side of things. We hate seeing lower level players (that we’re trying to help) lose even a single, desperately needed, gift.

Bob, I really appreciate your detailed post-reply. I have come close to removing all non-forum members but there's one thing that stops me. At this somewhat early level of gameplay, I want rewards, extra coins, neighbors visiting me and adding me. I admit to being anxious to level up asap, although I realise I should take the time and enjoy the ride. I won't be blasting off into space for a while as I'd like to build up a lot of coin and green before doing so - I understand the relevance here.

I'll continue to give priority to forum members and focus more on trading-asking for what I need, relying less on gifts from non-forum members. Again, thanks so much for your help!

Totally agree - and that's fine. We all started like that. Strategy - only add forum members from now on. Returning gifts to forum members is straightforward. Non-members if not in their name send F20, and as they go zzzz after a while, or don't send anything, start removing then if they don't come back/send after a reasonable time. Over time you will become forum only without reducing numbers or losing out on gifts.
