If you backed up your iPad to iCloud before you updated the iOS (which is always a good idea) you can always restore your device to that state.
Also, make sure your memory isn't full by closing down apps that may be running in the background.
Other than waiting for a fix from Apple, those are the only two things I can suggest.

I am in the same boat...my game hasn't started since. I am in conversation with G! Support. They said they wil further investigate the issue since the quick fix of rebooting the iPad did not work. I am currently waiting for a reply. Hopefully they get back to me with a restore code. All this buzz about this upcoming mega update is driving me nuts especially if I can't get into the game. I thought of a restore from icloud backup up but the time of my backup on iOS 8 does not show anymore. My "last backup" said "never" so I am reluctant to go this route.

Still locked out of my game... For the first time since I joined the AC community in 2012. Haven't heard from Mary at G! support yet. Getting very restless and anxious. I was fortunate in that this didn't happen to me during a quest. I have been just flying my falcons, star chasing and collecting launch ammo. I am hoping that we would get an update through App Store instead of a timed quest that was preloaded on the current version and will start sometime in the future. I definitely learned a harsh lesson with this iOS update.

Just read that Apple released iOS 9.0.1 today. Fingers crossed that fixes it for you. Please let us know!

Thanks a million Tom.. I would have never noticed plus the software update was there but never alerted me. Downloaded iOS 9.0.1 with a lot of hope but nothing changed as far as the affected apps including airport city. Now my fate lies in G! Support's hands.

I'm a techie but my usual explanation is karma. But Ramy has good karma so that doesn't make any sense.

And as a techie with a big software company, I know better than to update early. I don't want to live on the bleeding edge.

When I visit androids it says that your neighbor does not play anymore but you may call him back to the game. Although right now I visited two of my new android friends but I still can't visit old ones.

Due to all this problems, there might be a problem with new update. It really take so long, but i really hope they test it a lot. There could also be compatibility issues, like they were in past...

Didn't we have this issue once before when they were pushing out an update? I think they were updating their internal servers before the actual update was available in the stores. Maybe? Just maybe, Christmas is close

As far as I checked now it happens with some of the iOS players.
Will check if the ones I could visit are android.
