Maximizing Airport City Space (Optimal Building Layout)

Back in the days when there were no 50% land sale, expansion 11 and above were really "expensive" at 20 airport cash. Regular players have to maximise their building layout to get the most coins out of their land.

It's difficult to see the layout pattern when you have buildings on top, you have to lay it out on a grid to see it.

lister0f5meg shared his layout, and I thought it would be interesting to make a thread where you can share your layout.

Yea I did this last time we had 10 green land expansion offer, did it an excel spreadsheet/google drive spreadsheet and then just started placing stuff in patterns that I know work well with road placement, didn't get a perfect layout but was much better than before!:

I never liked the "bug" that allowed none linked roads (and secretly hoped GI would "fix it":troll:) as it was very messy and did not really help neighbours visit for particualr buildings.
Now after a year and many completed quests later I am starting to hit the limit of my city planning philosophy and I will soon need to redesign my city to allow more buildings, in particular residential buildings.:(
However I still have not decided whether to follow the "Monaco/Hong Kong" city planning philosophy as it just looks so cramped and unliveable.....

I have an alternative setup that is not by any means efficient for space but is efficient in the way my building timers come up. I have my buildings grouped into 10 minute, 15 minute, 20 minute, 1 hour, 4 hour, 8 hour, 12 hour, 1 day, and 2 day areas. I used to separate into a residential and commerce side but it was too inefficient. I use an empty space on my city side for mission buildings so my guests don't have to search. I use the 4 hour passenger buildings (568 passengers) as a reserve of passengers if my total gets low.

I agree with Blackcloud, I like a good realistic city design were all roads are connected and you virtually can travel form one end to another. Also with a design like mine you can collect enough coins and passengers to play the game succesfully.
At this moment I have 944/1250 habitants, 756/942 energy, 900 passengers and more than 500.000 coins. And the game gives me an extra challenge to keep the design nice and realistic. It will be difficult in the future on the city-side because I'm almost out of space but I will keep on trying it not to turn into a mess. And on airport-side I have still much expansions to buy....

Here is my city lay-out:

I started the game a year ago with a natural, street-heavy layout. The more I visited neighbors with the high-density layout, the more it appealed to me. So I changed a while ago. At some point I decided the biggest assets in the game were the buildings that added to my passenger maximum and dropped collectibles. My first goals were getting the Alien Legacy buildings, then the Space Travel Monuments. When the Aztec Pyramid reward came along I focused on that. Then Stonehenge. Then the Ancient Greek Temples. It took many months, but I finally earned a combined total of 20 of them plus the max of ten each of the Alien Legacy and Space Travel Monuments.
About a week or so ago, I had accumulated over 9,000,000 coins so I did a redesign like this:

I now have a maximum passenger count of 1280. Twenty buildings drop launch fuel items every 24 hours and 20 buildings drop collectible items. Most of the collectible items are minor, but some are very rare. The other day, a Pyramid dropped Atlas, one of the five collectibles necessary to earn The Outer Limits reward. All without a single map of or flight to Alexandria.
UPDATE: I just earned the endgame reward of a Space Needle without ever getting a map for or flying to Nagoya thanks to a Stonehenge drop.
I don't include the Airport part of Airport City because there's still plenty of space for everything and efficient use of space is not a problem.
This layout isn't for everyone but it works for me.
Cheers,
Tom

greensmith Tom I just read this post by you 8/17. In it you mention that you reworked you city approx I week earlier. I reviewed my Daily Log and it seems that it is possible that when you did the rearrangement we also lost ourselves as neighbors. Could this be the reason. Timing is awful close! Bill

billsnj,
I doubt that was the reason. Most elements of the game are resident on the device with only the social aspects -- gifting, visiting neighbors, launching rockets -- requiring the GI servers. I don't know how a city layout redesign could affect neighbors. I just think the game as a whole is buggy.

Tom

As readers of this thread know, my Waverly huff game was redesigned a few months ago for more collectible drops. I sold residential and commercial buildings to make way for nine Aztec Pyramids, nine Ancient Greek Temples and eight Stonehenge. For a while, they dropped some awesome items, including those to complete quest collections and those to create even more collectible drop buildings.
But those items haven't dropped for a month or so now. Absolutely none. I think GI eliminated the really good items from the drop list. Has anyone else found this out?
Cheers,
Tom
