I’ve been in Florida the last couple weeks. There is a large Latino community right in the area of Tampa we spent the last 10 days at. We’ve had homemade churros, Puerto Rican fried chicken, and all kinds of plantain based meals such as Tostones with pork and Mofongo. The spices and flavor in all this food has been incredible....takes me back to high school where two of my best friends were Puerto Rican and having dinner at their house before going home to eat dinner with my family.

The one thing I still haven’t found is a great slice of Key Lime Pie. That’s my next endeavor.

Why not go to the Key Lime festival - it is held every year July 4th weekend - it has been running for a few years now. I remember a neighbour of mine often speaking about it. He was very much into his pies.

And our dinner this evening is pan-fried sea bass with steamed Jersey new potatoes (yum) and a little butter melted over served with a selection of steamed fresh spring vegetables. The sun is shining and the temperature quite pleasant and with the dappled shade of the trees, we might just enjoy it outside.

Your evening meal is very pleasing - I enjoyed grilled sea bass with crab and prawns, mixed vegetable rice salad with dressing and chilled white wine on Wednesday for lunch - it went down beautifully, I must say.

For those in the USA, what did everyone do for the 4th of July? Not sure how many USA folks follow this area. Sitting here thinking about dinner tonight (pasta night) so I thought I'd jump on the forum and get myself hungry reading the latest foods

We did bacon wrapped scallops, steak and spicy chicken wings out on the grill. Pasta salad, regular garden salad, potato chips and dip, veggies and dip. Dessert was strawberry cream pie, strawberry shortcake and regular chocolate cake.

It seems the 4th July came and went quietly on this members forum, do not recall seeing any posts on this subject. Your food sounds really great, very satisfying outdoor food. The weather, here in this semi rural part of London, has been around 30 degrees. We have had many enjoyable meals in the garden, fingers crossed this will continue across July, August and September - good to hear from you.

We don’t generally do a ton for the 4th and it being on Wednesday made it tough this year. It’s also been a chaotic month or so for us.

Generally we just BBQ and maybe go to an ice cream shop but we didn’t even do any of that...it’s just been too crazy for us

I have a late afternoon lunch appointment with an old friend today, took some time to decide where to have lunch, really blessed with good restaurants and pub/restaurants. It will be somewhat of a long lunch, with much to catch up on - life can be really beautiful.

Seemed to have lost getting updates for this thread! - your lunch sounds fantastic. We are in the Lake District for a few days holiday, and had a steak and ale pie from a restaurant/pub with its own micro-brewery, it was excellent - and fantastic portions, so no desert! tea was fresh baked local bread, with cheese and ham, and a pint of locally brewed beer.

MMmmmmmmhhhh.
