Earthquakes and Volcanoes is what shaped this beautiful country of ours, mother nature is just letting us know she's not done with us yet As far as I'm aware there were no reports of injuries, but there will be a few earthquake claims, damaged stock rattled off of shelves.

The ring of fire has definitely been on fire that past couple of years. Our area has been pretty quiet...a little worrisome, but who knows. Glad you are safe.

My partner lives in Te Anau. We were talking online when the quake hit. Dramatic to say the least. Surprising how little damage was done. But as you say, geology has played a major part in making New Zealand beautiful. Nature rules, regardless of how powerful we think we are. Feeling the 'solid ground' waving like liquid dispels those false notions pretty darn quickly and effectively.

They are always scary, even the littler ones, because you never know when the big one is going to hit. Back in March of 2023 my little town experienced what's known as an "earthquake swarm" we had 922 earthquakes in the space of 48 hours, the biggest one was around 4.8, but they were going off every 30 seconds, some even less than that, it was truely a frightening experience.

Actually, let me tell you, Shanghai, China is very suitable for living.
There have never been any natural disasters that can endanger this area.
Earthquakes have only occurred once when I was very young (aftershocks from other places), but the ground suddenly shook twice
The following two screenshots of Shanghai, one is the Catholic Church in Xuhui District where I live (once the largest Catholic Church in Asia), which only takes ten minutes to walk there
Another landmark that attracts the most tourists now is the Bund and Lujiazui Financial District in Shanghai

Those images are beautiful unfortunately I live in what is probably the most active earthquake/volcanic zone in NZ. Whakaari/White Island (New Zealand's permanently active volcano) is 40 miles from where I live, then there's Mt. Tarawera 10 minutes down the road, which had a massive eruption in June 1886, caused a 17km (10.56 miles) tear in the earth's crust, Mt. Edgecumbe/Putauaki is less than a mile from where I live, it last erupted around 540 BCE, which released 1 cubic kilometer of lava (it is now considered dormant). Lake Taupo, the big pond in the middle of the North Island is actually a giant sunken caldera, recent earthquakes around the region had a lot of people worried it was waking up again, it has the potential VEI Volcanic Explosive Index as Yellowstone National Park. Then if all of that wasn't bad enough, we have the Hikurangi Trench off the East Coast, where the Pacific Tectonic Plate is subducting (going underneath) the Indo-Australian Tectonic Plate, subduction zones cause some of the most destructive earthquakes in the world. Then on top of that, AF8 is coming, it's not a matter of if, but when.
