Earthquakes and Volcanoes is what shaped this beautiful country of ours, mother nature is just letting us know she's not done with us yet
As far as I'm aware there were no reports of injuries, but there will be a few earthquake claims, damaged stock rattled off of shelves.

My partner lives in Te Anau. We were talking online when the quake hit. Dramatic to say the least. Surprising how little damage was done. But as you say, geology has played a major part in making New Zealand beautiful. Nature rules, regardless of how powerful we think we are. Feeling the 'solid ground' waving like liquid dispels those false notions pretty darn quickly and effectively.

They are always scary, even the littler ones, because you never know when the big one is going to hit. Back in March of 2023 my little town experienced what's known as an "earthquake swarm" we had 922 earthquakes in the space of 48 hours, the biggest one was around 4.8, but they were going off every 30 seconds, some even less than that, it was truely a frightening experience.
