Hurricane Michael

It must be a really difficult moment...

Have you ever lived an hurricane ?

I made it through Hurricane Andrew passed almost right over my place in Miami. I had evacuated and moved inland at an inlaws place. It was quite surreal seeing boats from the marina 3-6 blocks up sitting in intersections and basically unable to go anywhere in a car with tree littered everywhere. This was in the center of Miami. There was a community south of Miami called Homestead which again literally looked like match sticks after the hurricane passed.

I was happy to have made it through with no damage and no loved ones injured.

As an anecdote I drove cross country to live in Los Angeles and went through a wind storm when passing through Arizona and New Mexico and arrived just in time for the 1992 Northridge Earthquake. I figure I'm done for natural disasters for my life time.....

I have been following the news on television and radio about Hurricane Michael, since it was first reported. It really is quite terrible the things people have had to endure, during the storm, and the consequences afterwards for families and friends in the USA. Here in the UK we get storms, but fortunately not to that degree.

I have a co-worker who was blocks from the World Trade Center on 9/11, in Japan when the Fukashima reactor melted down, and in Indonesia when the Tsunami hit in 2004. I've told him on multiple occasions that he should never expect me to go on any kind of trip with him.

tomorrow we have storm Callum hitting the UK and we are expecting wind speeds of up to 60mph in Ireland and Wales. Nothing like a hurricane of course but very disruptive in a lesser sense.

Yes, I have been following the news on radio and television. The wind speed figures varies from 60mph to 80mph, depending on where you get your news. Either way, hope it passes quickly with limited damage and no lives lost from falling trees.
