General More of a forum question than game

I understand that watching a thread means you'll be notified anything happening in the thread. When I am followed I'm assuming that a follower will be notified any time I post?

No, no notifications. Just makes it easier to find your neighbors on the forum I follow everyone who is my neighbor. When I'm gifting, I just pull up "people you follow", makes it much easier to check their signatures for gifts.

Also, if your game crashes, lose your neighbors, etc, it makes it easier to add your neighbors back.
