iOS Adding Neighbors Problem

I always have trouble with adding neighbors (or I'm so dumb to do the wrong step). It's always returned with "Request sent" and immediately will be the error message below so I really don't know if my request went through. Am I doing it right or there's another section for adding neighbors? @Dave I'm trying to add you to send Strobe Light.

This message can only mean one of those two: the code is wrong OR, most probably, you’re already neighbors with that player

you're right. I'm indeed already a neighbor with @Dave. That means I'm not dumb, just the game's message is very misleading
