Guys, I understand your frustration from lower drop rates. What I would suggest however - don't completely give up doing events. In any case take your stars from the event flights, do. event without additional resources and if you fail this year, next year you will have a good base to finish it.

Don't generalize :) Back to school event was perfectly doable despite you needed two collections from building drops. Well, since I rejoined the game last winter I didn't fail on event despite I had only very few repeated events. Surely it will happen sooner or later but... :) I had few events...

Well, I purchase right now 2x5 North America maps weekly although I don't plan to start flying Condor adventure flights for next year. Main thing in this game is long-term planning.

I burned also a lot of fuel in this event: 400 2hrs flights with only 4 TPs could be made only with instant returns, the Straitjacket bug from 1st week contributed to this as well (have to keep my possessed terminal empty not to miss any Vaults taps).
