@jimstreet - Though excavation maps cost $2,000. each, they are well worth it. They will add to our destination stars, and as stated yesterday, you can get collections that will enable to you to obtain monuments, buildings and other things that will increase your population, passenger levels and also drop a collectible space item once per day. You will also be able to obtain 1 gold token for each completion of a collection. There are only a couple of ways to get gold tokens (Which can then be used to purchased S1, S2, S3 planes, golden planes, mints, banks and casinos, etc.)

As for the Duty Free shop, that's a touchy subject with many people around here. Some find it useful, others find it to be a PITA - And, in some cases, like @Agent_L, "A waste of space and power". Then you have @Captain WH Rollins problem, which is that it won't collect until at least 3 generations after he passes (23,000 days or something like that). It's basically a personal choice. I have a Duty Free shop on Ten, but not on Ten2.

As for Cape Canaveral, Baikonur, North / South Observatory, you'll be flying to those destinations the rest of the game to pick up space launch items...

@jimstreet - You can't. You can only purchase them for 4 greens. However, you CAN pick up items to complete Spy Glass and Sky Captain bonuses, which do much the same thing as Golden Dice. Just have to keep clicking on neighbor buildings and flying to various destinations in order to complete the collections.

I read with great interest your first paragraph on excavation maps - thanks for posting it. I've had it in mind for sometime, your words have helped move things along, golden tokens was the key word. It's currently - 24,732 days and 17 hours to go.

I wasn't accepting any more neighbours - but 6 Planetariums - How could I refuse - the only downside is that I can only visit 5 at a time LOL
I do have a lot of people who I exchange gifts with and at the moment I am struggling to return them all so for now would rather not get into "regular" gifting but of course if there is some specific building item which I have, and you need, then please drop me a message and I will send it. I do fairly regular Red space flights though low on resources at the moment (your planetariums should help!) so I am tending to tag along with others rather than launch my own. Had an amazing run of flights where QL's jumped on board so I put in more resources so they could finish quickly - paid off though I had three first places in 24 hours! I am off to raid you right now!!
@gbswales I can help you with Arch Metal Detector .Send to me and I will send you in return.

Thank you for this extremely useful explanation. Up until now I have regarded these flights as an unnecessary distraction !

Do you need one map per flight ? Or can you make multiple flights using the one map ?

How can you get a golden dice without greenies?
It's only 4 greens, so if you spend the weekly free greens, you get 3 dices in 4 weeks.

About excavation flights: don't do them too early. It's pretty much for people who can afford 20k per week without hesitation. I'm spending 60k per week on maps alone, and I'm not even flying them. I'll fly them later, all at once. At some point you'll find "10 maps per week" more limiting than "20k per week" - the key is to begin stockpiling them slightly before that point : ) But not too soon, when 20k per week would cripple your growth.

@Harcourt & @Captain WH Rollins - Excavation maps are pretty much the same as green, blue and red maps you obtain. They are active for mainly 6 hours each. You can fly as many times as you can in that 6 hours. Most, if not all excavation map destinations don't need any flight items either.

When you buy the maps from Duke and you start your flights to bring the map chest use Spy Glass bonus

I find the problem with these maps is there is nothing to tell you what plane you need to fly the route - the last few I opened turned out to need Falcons and it will be some time before I have any of those. If you dont have the right plane you need greenies to fly them and that doesnt seem a very productive use for them. Or am I missing something?

You can check before you use the map what type of plane you need
@gbswales If you click on that plane in the left bottom you can see all flights that you can do in the world, launches, adventure and alliance flight and for adventure and alliance flights you will see for each map what airplane is require
Before you activate the map check if you have the airplane required for that destination and the stars required but first you have to bring the map chest using the map from Duke

@gbswales - What @Radu81 said is correct, the only maps you CAN'T see what planes you use are the green, blue and red space map destinations. However, there are a lot of studious, detail oriented people on this here forum, and many of them have made guides for these types of maps. If you go to this forum:

https://www.airportcitygame.com/forums/airport-city-guides.19/

You will see that there are guides posted that will tell you pretty much anything you'd ever want to know about map destinations.

Or, another option you have is to ask people like @rocky, @m-bari, @KenDuckySmith and others that have been around since dirt and have flown to all of those places eons ago. This is of course provided they can still remember. :) :D :p (*JK* about the, "Been around since dirt" comment, love ya guys! :D (y)(y);))

Now that is interesting !

I will think about sending 9 turbojets to Mesoamerica.

Many thanks for the info which deserves some response, so Fuel20s are on the way to Ten and Ten2 with my compllimenst !!

@Harcourt, @Captain WH Rollins and @jimstreet - One other thing I might mention is, that the maps you buy from Duke are for the specific area of excavation. In other words, you have Mesoamerica, Ancient Rome, etc.

Those destinations will provide you with other maps to destinations for the collections. For example, if you look at the flights, you'll see Machu Pichu, Tollan, Quetzalcoatl, Tenochtitlan and Chichen Itza as sub maps under Mesoamerica. Once you fly to Mesoamerica (Which those flights are not timed by the way), you will receive one of the sub maps. Those are the ones that are timed, and those are the ones that contain the items necessary to complete Aztec Legacies, etc.
