Video Trailer: Age of Ash

I just read a new entry + video trailer on Airport City Mobile's facebook page:

There will be a new event "Age of Ash", where a volcanic eruption inflict damage to your airport city.

I'm not sure how much destruction it will inflict to our cities, and how permanent it will be. I can live with houses and common commercial building being razed to the ground, but not earned buildings like the Planetarium, Xmas Tree, Tree of Life, Training Centre etc.

The comments in the post indicate some people are actually looking forward to it!
Not a single comment that this is a bad idea?

I saw the trailer and was a bit worried, tbh! I can't really see how it's all going to play out?

I doubt they would permanently destroy our buildings. We can always warehouse the best ones of thats the case. If anything when destroyed they would possibly return them to a construction phase again. Looking forward to the addition of possible fire fighting planes. Special buildings should be introduced to support those as well. I'm excited for it since they did put a little more effort into a preview video rather than a simple post. Maybe the worst is behind us...one can dream.

I checked some of my bldgs if they can be warehoused before the event...and found out that :

Money producing bldgs (casinos, banks, mints) cannot be warehoused. If destroyed permanently, will be hopeless, especially no new offers for casino, bank, or mint are planned in future.

Planitariums, Training Centers, space monuments, Rocket Gardens, etc. can all be warehoused.

Town Hall, Terminal, Control Tower cannot be warehoused. Rebuilding all over again? Not looking forward to it.

MCC and launch pads cannot be warehoused.

Only hope I have for this "exciting" new event is that the reward is for those who rebuild the city from destruction in a shortest time. And all airport cities be restored to its original state when the event is over.

So I guess it will be rebuild at no time (or some time ).

From the weekend code that they're give us I think it's gonna be back2back event with Back2School.

Destruction of buildings that cannot be warehoused? Bad idea. Destruction of mints/banks/casinos? Very, very bad idea. Especially since GI is not offering those again which is unfair to other players since some players have more than 6 of them. I saw some that have 20 of them. And how is it possible that a volcano will just suddenly pop out on your city from nowhere? It would have been more realistic if it's a tornado or earthquake.

And what is the reward for all that trouble? A building that can be bought from the Duke? LOL

But hey, I will try to have an open mind and see how it plays out when it comes around.

Hi GI Support.

I have viewed the new "Age of Ash' video that was posted, regarding the new 'event' that is scheduled to be rolled out in a new update to Airport City.

Please, can you provide a redeem code or something so that I can bypass this new event? I do not want to play it. I have spend years trying to build up my city and I have a very long way to go yet. The last thing I need is having my buildings destroyed and having to rebuild them. I can speak only for myself, but this new upgrade sounds like a terrible idea. I have finally gotten to the point where I can visit neighbors to get items for space launches. It would be most troublesome to have those buildings in my neighbors cities get destroyed.

What were you thinking with this new upgrade? Are you trying to turn Airport City into SimCity? If so, it isn't going to work. One thing is for sure, I am NOT going to upgrade my primary game until I find out what this volcano does and how bad the upgrade is going to be.

I'm looking forward to this event because its completely new.. if buildings have been burnt / destroyed then I believe that G! should allow the buildings to be restored after the event

I wonder if this is something that we will have to 'activate' or will we just see our airports suddenly burned down one fine morning when we wake up and open our AC?

Or is there another update before we get this quest?

You are all taking a cinematic trailer a bit too seriously.
If you've dealt with attack of the leprechauns and giant mushrooms, you're going to be okay when dealing with a giant volcano.
As in: your city will not be literally destroyed even if you fail miserably with completing the event.

Glad that was cleared up. I was 99% sure our cities would not actually be destroyed.
However, with the level of anxiety of some, that 1% was starting to concern me.

I sincerely hope that my concerns about the upcoming "age of ash' event are unfounded. We will see. I think I will try the update first on one of my secondary games though, just to be safe. No offense to GI support but there is a pattern of updates to Airport City causing users problems. I am all for a new event. I would like the update to be well tested BEFORE it is released. In the meantime, I am working on my green launches and to get enough tokens for my first GRAND HOTEL.

I don't know...I think it already hit one of my cities. All of my buildings, airplanes, everything....are all gone. All that's left is the square where everything used to be. (Although I am thinking this is a glitch not relating to this new lava challenge. Ticket has been placed with support.)

Below is the reply I received from GI Support regarding my concerns about the upcoming "age of ash' event.
What would be 'exciting and unusual' is if there are no major bugs or difficulties when the "age of ash' event is rolled out.
I suppose that sounds a bit critical, but GI's record for roll outs of updates has not been very good for the past 9 months.
The last update which caused the game to freeze every 3 to 4 seconds of play time is a good example. My game still suffers from this glitch except that the interval is every 10 minutes or so.
