What's with the "3" behind some of the players' in-game name?

I've noticed some of my neighbors changed their in-game name to end with the digit "3", some forum-members also. Anyone care to elaborate on that or is it an 'insiders only'-type of indication?

I believe it’s used in some sort of trading ring where the players have selected up to 3 items and the number is used to indicate which choice they’d prefer to receive.

Gets confusing. I started using f2 for f20 and f3 for fuel 3. Not enough space to communicate what we need but even more important now.

Always used 20, not F20,T20.
So, 20 or 3 should logically translate to Fuel 20 or Fuel 3.
If one retained the thousands of F20, then they most likely do not mind receiving F3.
Single space remaining in Profile, then 'F' = Fuel.
