I’ve only just discovered the attempt to compare AC aircraft to those “in real life” in Wiki. It should be noted that No AC aircraft models exist in real life and the game developers have deliberately designed them that way. They would have spent many hours going over their designs before releasing them into the game, comparing them to the real world aircraft to ensure that couldn’t be too closely linked. That process wouldn’t be as easy as it might seem. The game designers need them to look like real airplanes (not space age/UFO/mad professor creations) and most aircraft manufacturers have tried/used many of the possible combinations of engines, wing design, empennage style, bogeys, etc. (at least when it comes to mass producing traditional style aircraft that exist today). AC has only drifted from the traditional styles when introducing the Falcon (Concorde) and Condor (SR-71 Blackbird). Both of these aircraft, however, are similar in appearance only because the original aircraft are so unique and iconic (and smaller!) . The Concorde flies at Mach 2 at 60,000 ft, has max passengers of 100, 4 after burning engines and a uniquely designed tilting nose (primarily for landing visibility) and heat shield (extending up from the nose to protect the cockpit glass in supersonic flight). The Falcon has 2 jet engines, no adjustable nose or heat shield, carries 350 passengers and it‘s delta wing extends almost the entire length of the fuselage. The SR-71 is a military 2 seat spyplane that flies above Mach 3 and 85,000 ft while the Condor is a behemoth, double decker, 750 passenger people mover. The basic shape of the Condor is very close to that of the Blackbird with only differences like the extended, pointy rear tip of the fuselage and the fitting of winglets. All other comparisons of AC aircraft to real models are a stretch at best and probably have 2 or 3 models that could be suggested as their inspiration.

IMHO, I don't think this information should be in wiki. Wiki is, what we would hope to be, a source of accurate and specific information. Yes, it should be listed somewhere for reference and discussion - but not in a guide section where people that are reading that data are expecting it to be fact, not opinion. Just my 2 cents 🤪.

There are multiple real-world aircraft listed on the wiki for most of the AC aircraft in the game. We also use "based on" to denote that it is not an exact match (most likely for legal reasons). This is the same for AC buildings found in the real world shown on the wiki.

As for whether this should be in the wiki... this is the part of the forum that is in the unofficial category of "fun information". The info is at the bottom of each wiki page, so as not to hinder access to info that impacts game play. And clearly there is interest in knowing and discussing these things (see the threads regarding identification of AC buildings and aircraft in the real world). It is just for fun and useless knowledge that won't even get you points in playing Jeopardy or at your local quiz night at the bar -- but is is cool and interesting :)
