Just curious, what device are you using? Free2Play posted a while back about a fresh install for older devices right around the same time as I was forced to upgrade my iPad - AC wasn't the only game that crashed on that device.

First full day playing this event as LY2 was hit by the crashing bug in the 4.9.16 update, still trying to understand everything, and try to catch up with the 4 lost days, would definitely need all my neighbors help. LY2 still needs quite some slabs if you can help. Here I have sent out my gifts the first time after the 4.9.16 update. I have mostly sent out Limestone Slab and Straitjacket.
