Most players watch ads a/or add item name to their username to be received as gift via neighbors (the more neighbors, the more likely to receive gift) in addition to destination flights where such items drop.

Yes, there are limits for each type of add. I think for getting the items you need for a building it is a limit of10? - but it may differ by platform. I know on windows you don't get the adds anymore, just a 5 second counter, but thats because of GI and paying/licenses with windows to show them. I am sure one of my esteemed colleagues will be able to give a proper response though.
