How do I put residential or commercial buildings in my warehouse?

You can not put those in warehose, only possibility is by moving buildings around if you have enough space.

Tip for moving around buildings: remove the roads. That'll give you the extra space to move everything around, and put back the roads when you're done.
When I completed that Cat collection, the Pet Shop appeared in the Buildings section of my Warehouse, so that seems to be its purpose, not storing Buildings from the map.
When I then built the Pet Shop, it was naturally removed from the Warehouse.
If you want to move things around (and everyone should), wait until you have bought a new land area.
Roads do not have to join up, you can scatter them all over just so each building is next to one piece of road. There are far too many pieces of road on the starting map.
