Can ipad players have android players as friends?

I have a few friends that play this game on android and I'm the only one with ipad....we added each other but when I send a specific gift they send it back and all I get is fuel not the gift I sent them. My picture in their neighbor list is empty so I'm wondering if maybe we ipad users can't be airport neighbors with android . Please let me know

You can be neighbors but the gifts that they're sending back might be gifts that are not able to cross over so they turn into fuel, these gifts are disposable shampoo for iPad players and any mission items. Hope this information helps Evilqueen
