Anyone who can outline (speculate on) the mechanics for this event, for those of us who weren't around last year? For example the last one was a rather straight line with three targets for event completion:
Gifts, neighbor visits -> Firecrackers (item) -> Umbrellas (via demons) -> Chinese Shop (building) -> Fans (item) -> Event destinations -> Dolls -> Puppet Theatre (building) -> Kites
(There was also a shortcut, randomly assigned to some players instead of firecrackers: Gifts -> Fans)

Edit: Scanning old wiki pages there seems to be buildings which generate romantic passengers who can be flown to romantic destinations, while picking flowers might be a "separate" task chain using the item mechanic and with Sweets accumulations as a "separate" third target? Speculation:
Gifts, neighbor visits -> Pruning Shears (item) -> Flowers
Coins (?) -> Romantic buildings -> Romantic passengers -> Romantic destinations -> Plush animals
Coins (?) -> Romantic buildings -> Sweets

From the wiki:
Walk-Through
  1. Build Romantic Buildings (Gazebo, Bridal Salon, Merry-Go-Round, Romantic Cafe, Sweet Shop) within your city.
  2. Visit the Romantic Buildings in your and your neighbors' cities to collect Romantic Passengers and items from the Dolce Vita collection.
  3. Fly to Romantic Destinations (Venice, Maldive Islands, Provence, Verona, Riviera) to acquire items from the A Plush Pleasure collection.
  4. Complete the A Plush Pleasure collection and build a Merry-Go-Round in your city.
  5. Acquire Pruning Shears by collecting flowers around neighbors' cities, trading with your neighbors or purchasing a Gardener Set.
  6. Use the Pruning Shears to collect flowers from around your city and obtain items from the Valentine's Bouquet collection.
  7. Continue collecting items until you have enough to fill three of each the Dolce Vita, A Plush Pleasure and Valentine's Bouquet collections, and building three Merry-Go-Rounds in your city.

It will. Either way, it's still a great item for event purchases. I hope it becomes the norm like our beloved fuel additive.

Which probably means you need to "burn" any existing SGs first? At least you had to with BoR... A bit sad for me who've save a few 'til I have a good use for them, and a good reason to never collect the SG collections until right before use.

You might be able to pick up a little more from the collections tab in game, as I suspect the collections will all be the same.
I've done the event before, but many many years ago so I can't remember much.

Thx, the one difference seems to be to collect the Plush Pleasure collections in this instance, instead of building Merry-go-rounds (might be a way to force veteran players to do some legwork before completion).

The Merry-go-round is the reward for the Plush Pleasure collection
Yep, but unless they're the only source of sweets (and considering the wording "romantic buildings", likely not) you don't really have to build them to complete the event. Also, old Merry-go-rounds from prior years will now do you no good as you need to collect 3 Plush Pleasure collections again (as the event target says).

Just stated this seems to be different from the wiki version of the event.

Maybe, but even so, it's still not too bad. If you're fortunate to always have spyglass in storage, then you can easily buy something else just as good, such as the fuel additive. It's nice to leave the storage untouched, but if youre replenishing the items you use without much effort, then it's the same thing as not using the stored items at all.

I vaguely remember the Bridal Salon being the most useful, as it drops more items - cost greens to buy though
