So with this year's Down The Rabbit Hole event, we no longer get actual Plane of Hearts. Instead, we get the livery....no problem with that in itself. However, this causes some inconveniences for the player:
1) Because of how liveries are currently handled, you only have one option to obtain the livery for free. The other option is to pay 2 greenies for the livery, but not everyone wants to spend greenies in the game.
2) If you keep the Plane of Hearts swift through the weekly reset, your alliance tasks will now be assigned to Swifts, which may not be what the player wants to fly for their alliance
3) You would have to sell your Plane of Hearts if you want to keep your usual alliance tasks the following week

As I said, you can just spend greenies and get the Plane of Hearts livery back, but it shouldn't be this way. The suggestions below could easily prevent this from happening in the future. You only need one of these suggestions to work, but the game would be so much better if you implement both:

Suggestion #1 - Make liveries detachable from an aircraft before it is sold. This is the easiest change to implement. All you would need to do is change the livery back to a regular swift aircraft before selling it. Once the week resets and the weekly alliance tasks are assigned, you can purchase a Swift and then re-apply the same livery.
Suggestion #2 - Determine Alliance Task based on the planes with an assigned slot, not considering planes in the reserve hangar. This suggestion is still easy, but may be a little bit harder than the first suggestion. This would pair well with @DarekK 's suggestion of only allowing destinations not 3 starred to show up in the alliance task rotation. With this, you can simply place the Plane of Hearts swift into the hangar before the weekly reset, and then add it back to the active fleet once the alliance tasks are assigned.

These are the kind of changes that gives the player more control of their game, allowing them to reach their goals and build their custom airports, which to me is always a good thing.

Has anyone tried to use a Plane of Hearts from inventory? I have several from last year, and was thinking trying the "use" button to see if it works. I have planes in flight, next time one lands I'll give it a go.

No luck. Only option is to sell it.
This is concerning, but I wonder if it only applies to the Plane Of Hearts? I was able to use one of my many carpet planes I had in storage to test out liveries when it initially rolled out. I have S3s in storage that were obtained before liveries but were never used; would not be happy if I had to get rid of them after my hard work of obtaining them

Only the special and discontinued planes: plane of hearts, jet fighter, jet sleigh
I still have some usable planes in the warehouse, and have some time ago used a carpet plane from there

My carpet plane currently flies to Wonderland (with hearts livery added). Guess at some point will be faced with selling though 😥
Yeah it's been a request of mine for the past year. You shouldn't have to sell aircraft to get certain alliance tasks. It's counter-productive to the game goal of having a full, balanced fleet.

What do you mean?
That aspect has been removed from the current event, presumably for all future events, causing the game to become imbalanced and so I fear this is a trending direction 😨

Instead of the pilot building ones fleet to tackle a common set of tasks, they are now randomly, periodically and individually assigned by G$ and some more reliant upon G$'s droprate. I am already very sick of receive "X" from Wonderland, I'd much rather just fly there 150 times and know this at the onset so I can plan appropriately instead of G$ slowly revealing this as the game is played.

Speaking of which, let's breakdown the true aspect of this deceptive change specific to Wonderland missions:
Obtain "hat", have had at least 5 times as a mission: 8-10 flights until dropped
Obtain "croquet set", have had at least 6 times as a mission including 3 in a row: 8-10 flights until dropped
Obtain "watch", have had at least 2 times as a mission: 8-10 flights until dropped
Obtain "heart", have had at least 4 times as a mission: 8-10 flights until dropped
Obtain "crown", have had at least 4 times as a mission: 8-10 flights until dropped

By my math, that's at least 150-170 flights now to Wonderland; sound familiar?

Actually I think it makes it more fun. I'm having more fun at least, though I realize it's not the same for everyone.
It’s not fun when it asks you again and again and again to fly to the same places when they are already 3 starred. Wonderland flights are purely to use up resources.
Im second in my league and having 3 starred all destinations except tbird and condor, I’m giving up and going back to flying what I normally go for. This event is way way way too long.

Sell a giant to buy an owl hmmmmmmmm. That decision was hard.

I understand, I am in the same situation. If it were easy, it would be no fun. For myself I'm a star-chaser and it could seem pointless or agonizing to have to park planes and buy different ones to accomplish the challenge, however if I could race through to level 40 with no impact on my plans then it seems too simple. Like you I'm having to make choices between goals. I'm at level 36 already, even missing a few days due to work, and I have not had to buy any levels. It is achievable for me to hit 40 by end of game if I'm studious and willing to make tradeoffs.

This then is our choice as high level players: is it worth it to swap out planes and fly to stars we don't need to get the bonus, or you can also choose the point of view that the bonus isn't worth going after?

To me having that choice is part of the fun.
