I am in the middle of trying to get my first temple. I have some comments and two questions.

The Mesoamerica Maps are 2000 coins each or 20 for 5 greenies. You cannot buy individual maps (if we could, I would), but you can buy a chest of three (random) maps for 12 greenies. I don't think the three maps is worth the 12 greenies. The Mesoamerica flights SELDOM drop a map chest, but during a couple of quests, the same flight also ALWAYS drops another map chest (Machu Picchu). I don't remember which quests were doing it, but Thanksgiving and Back to School come to mind. I might have posted about it at the time. My point is if you are watching the changes that occur during the quests, you might be able to gather a lot of Machu Picchu maps, plus maps to other cities. It's tough if you are also trying to complete the quest, but worth trying.:X3:

So here's my question. I have used some strategies mentioned in other threads to gather several items with one map- I used Secret Faucet (6 greenies) and Golden Dice (4 greenies). Does one item drop at a lower rate than the others? I flew about ten or twelve flights to Tenochtitlan and got three drops (two-headed serpent). I believe I used the same combination to Chichen Itza (Bird Helmet), Tollan (Obsidian Knife) and Quetzalcoatl Temple (Quetzalcoatl) and had much higher drop rates. Is there a better combination to use?

I always use just a golden dice on them, you should be trying to fly at least 20 flights per map or 24 even if you have 12 planes using fuel catalyst to speed them up once each journey and starting golden dice just before landing the first group. You should be able to speed at least one plane up to land immediately and send out again. As for drops, they are a bit random but over three or four maps making all 100 flights you should get enough for at least two or three temples. If you have plenty of fuel speed up a few planes once the dice are active, maybe just on the destination you are having difficulty with. I'm doing the Egyptian maps right now and got 10 drops from one map yesterday but four from one the day before.

Yes, Golden Dice does increase the drop rate with Collection maps. When I wrote my quest guides I indicated the number of flights and the number of drops using a bonus.
No, one item doesn't seem to drop at a lower rate than the others. It's all random. You'll see with quests that some players have lots of Item A but can't seem to get Item B to drop; with other players, Item B drops easily and Item A does not. All random.
Cheers,
Tom

@greensmith , it is true. I experienced always drop Machu Pichu. Now I have 89 Machu Pichu and 0 for others. I think it was a bug. But now already normal.

Yes, there was a bug back in June 2014 in which Machu Pichu Map chest drop rate was set as "always" and "seldom".
So you should get either 1 and sometimes 2 map chest. But that bug has been closed.

Actually @Tecmage mentioned it, and I did a few Machu Picchu runs because of it.

@Bali Hi , the bug was only active during the quests. I can confirm that it happened during more than one quest. I remember that the bug appeared during a quest, disappeared when that quest ended, and started again during a second quest.

Very good info:) my question is for the outer limits collection.... I see the only way to get maps is to place first in the launches... I am not going to get greedy because that is not fair to others... I need more maps but how do u get more first places and not be greedy? Also, how are the drop rates per map that u use? Do u use a map, then hit the same again when the time ends or do u wait and break the times u fly to the map that u use? The space race is my quest since it started... Now since the Mars mission was mentioned, that is where my quest continues... Many thanks to all my neighbors on here that have helped me and I would not be this far in my game if not for u all:) Any info on this would be great :)

Diablo, there is no other way. You need to arrange strategy when you get a single launch for you to get the maps and join the parties to get the rank in the world map.

I did all the flights and each destinations need only 1 map. I calculate how many fuel and passengers and I did fly and back. That is what i did.

Perhaps this thread on the Outer Limits Quest can help:
https://www.airportcitygame.com/threads/the-outer-limits-new-quest.3602/#post-54415
Unfortunately, you have to place first to get the maps. There's no way around it and that's what makes the quest so difficult. Actually, it was even more difficult before Quantum Leaps when you had to wait 24 hours for the rocket to land before you could fly again.
Whenever I started a map quest, I changed all my planes to the type that the quest demanded. That way I could fly 8-9-10-11 planes (depending on how many hangars I had at the time) on one map. With Fuel Catalysts, I could always get twice the landings per map. Golden Dice helped the drop rate considerably. I usually publish the drop rate when I write a quest guide to share my experience with others.
Good luck with the Outer Limits quest and have patience ... it will take time but the end reward is attainable.
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks @Robby and @greensmith:) I just need to jump on more of @Robby's Ql parties :) I guess the only thing is to may be do two to three first places a party and save from there... Golden dice will be my first bonus to use since I use it about twice a week to visit my friends cities:) would u recommend to fly these maps back to back or use one map destination here and one there?

@Diabloscort
I usually wait until I have maybe five maps to each destination. Then I send all my planes to the destination that has the most maps. When I get enough drops from that destination -- usually six -- I move on to the next. I usually finish with the destination that has the least maps because that requires more work squeezing landings in before the maps expire. It helps if you have a large maximum passenger count and lots of fuel in your warehouse.
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks @greensmith:) as of this message, I have 4,000 fuel and a little over 5,000 passengers... I have a lot of fuel in storage... once the Halloween event ended last year, I saved fuel and passengers from guest planes..... I started to fly again during the Christmas event and finished in the first 4 days... now I am going to save more fuel and passengers for these map flights... Thanks a lot for the info:)

@Diabloscort ,

Are you using Golden dice for neighbour visits? Why?.

Since a couple of months I use a Golde Dice daily when I visit neighbors. Droprate from Planetariums is so much better then. I'm lucky to have 12 neighbors with 5 or more Planetariums so I can click 60 each day. Without a Golden Dice I manage to get 20-25 launch ready boxes a day, using a golden dice I will score 45-60 boxes. And that for only 4 greenies which drop from casino and bank...
Golden Dice works best if you activate it around 1 hour before visiting or before landing planes!

I use it for a while too and I think I got almost 300% droprate now. I don't use it daily but I combine it with the special destination maps in the weekend. In the past I bought PEB's and MS' @ dukes and this is definitely a cheaper solution!
