Powerful Oil refinery cost - final upgrade

2000 greenies. Yep - 2000

I'm pointing out this little gem for a simple reason. The cost is just stupid vs the value added if you happen to do this upgrade. Let me show you:

1. If you go to the bank and get the greenies on sale, you still will spend hundreds of actual cash to get the 2000 that you need. Seems like a bad deal doesn't it if you are like most average folk who play this game.
   
2. If you go the weekly 3 greenies gift code route - lets see... 2000 divided by 3 = 667 weeks or 12.82 YEARS. You willing to go that long?
3. Get a mint or other building that will deliver the cash you need. look at this thread: https://www.airportcitygame.com/threads/casino-bank-mint.16204/
   18 months between offers....

Is it me or does this seem just not realistic? Thoughts everyone?

There are players out there who do hundreds and hundreds of red launches every week, have gold tokens coming out the ying yang, and have 10 each of mints, casino, and banks, which they are able to reactivate as needed. They are the ones who are able to do that 2000 greenie upgrade.

...and these same players already have the upgrade to the refinery so it doesn't include them. Also they have been playing for years and the game has had rebalancing done so for us "normal" folks, it is an unreasonable expectation to go for.

I agree completely - that upgrade was just for those players I guess! Something "special" to keep them happy. Even with my CBMs, I can't get close to 2000 greenies!

Well, I keep 950 greenies for Mystery Superbuilding Sale, so now and then I have ca 1,200 - 1,300 greenies. I could go to 2,000 but it is not my priority yet. And all those greenies are collected from Mint.

If they wanted to make it say 20,000,000g for the thing instead of 2000 greenies, at least us normal folks have a shot at it. True it take me several months to get there but it would be at least possible. Right now unless I spend hundreds of real $$$ I can NEVER get it.

Don't speak too soon. Twelve months ago I would have agreed 100%. I don't have the greenies to do it now, but I'm certainly not writing it off in the near future. The purchase of two mints has allowed me to triple my city size, if not more, in 6 months. 80 greenies per square (on special) now! I admit that gold tokens are harder to get, but it's not an impossible task.

Either way, to me it's a lot of green that can be used on other things. I think I'd rather just join another fuel ring and use that fuel to make up for the extra 30 fuel or whatever it is

if i had millions of dollars and spare time to go with it i would spend some money
but i think i would have to gift some things to other players, more enjoyable, than just thrashing everyone all the time

but i suspect a computer program plays the accounts to push us further to spend the cash

I'll ask you the same question in two years time, if you're still playing.

Up until recently, I don't think there were so many fuel rings in place (I could be wrong) and would be very doubtful that many would be involved in more than one. Away from the forums, I suspect a fuel ring is virtually unthought of. So for those 10s of thousands of people playing, fuel is much tougher to get. It doesn't sound like much, but at least once a day, while you're sleeping, you'll essentially get 2 extra red barrels for no work. No gifts, no requests, no logging in every few hrs to make sure you don't waste a drop!

I'm at top level and have done all upgrades except that one (I think?) and my fuel is capped at 250. If I don't log in and launch flights every 4hrs and 10 mins, I'm losing fuel. If life is busy and I can stretch the time and get around 6 extra barrels a day, sweet!

Remember that I used to buy greenies but then i was lucky enough to buy 2 mints. The mints are significantly harder to recharge now, so this upgrade has diminished in priority, but if you have the greens, you might as well spend. Buying all possible land is number one priority but after that?? Should I stop buying land because it's now 160 greens per block?

The real value (not dollar value-something GI needs to address and sort of has done that with silver and gold tokens, even though quite poorly) of greens decreases the longer you play. Early on, they're like real gold. Huge benefits to be had. The bigger you get, the more you need. Eventually, hopefully, you'll get onto a CBM deal and just as your game is grinding to slow drag, the injection will get you going again. Like buying coins, some may do it early on but the deals they have are useless beyond level 20! I'm at that stage now with greenies - the amount needed to do one simple upgrade makes them no longer viable to buy.

The description says it adds 40 units of fuel. 290 in total if you are level 80 and have level 3 small- and powerful oil refinery.

Let me share my view point as well: for me the game is at first place a challenge. First big challenge is how to get greenies to expand. I purchased greenies before my first CBM offer. Now I earn them. Another challenge is to build enough passenger buildings to fly 120-140 flights with different planes. Now I'm at the level (OK, with activated 1 Family ticket) to fly that many Jumbo flights for 6 hours. My next challenges are to earn enough gold tokens for buying 6x from each of Casino, Bank, Mint buildings. To earn even more gold tokens to activate the new Alliance buildings and to collect automatically coins, passengers, collectable items.
Do you really need to finish the Family life quest? I decided I go slow, first I had only 2 Megamalls in my city, when I expanded the city I purchase 6. I would have been able to visit 11 neighbors x 6 plus 12 or 18 daily in my city - ca 80 daily. For 13 days I would have finished the quest but would not have visited Planetariums. Instead I finished the quest for 4+ months not visiting friends' Malls. Another challenge.
Can you win a Cloud Castle quickly? Sure! I decided however that I'll go the slow approach and will not spend hours in tapping clouds. Instead I follow my main goals: Stars and Adventure buildings.
So some day Pow'ful refinery will become my priority and I'll buy it. Not now, however. And I consider it as a nice differentiator. It is not a "life saving" facility so you can play without it. Purchasing it will show that you really advanced well in the game. And i don't say "too expensive, will never gonna buy it" Just say: when the time comes.

There's a sale once every two years/18 months. It costs a lot of gold and silver tokens. The last one was offered March 2017 so the earliest will probably be September 2018. There is no guarantee they will ever offer it again.

That's unfortunate, I take it there is no way to buy a building that gives greenies??

I would say while the 3 collections stay in the list, CBM offer will pop up once and a while.
