Excavation Map Flights and Plane Types Required
The information displayed within this user guide is for players who are more experienced, those who have been playing for some time and have reached a good level with their game, and are now planning on flying excavation map flights.

For those of you who are in the early stages of your game development, you will still find this user guide useful, because it will allow you to look ahead, help you to know what you will need to do, to prepare for these types of map flights.

As to when will be the right time to start flying excavation maps, this is not such a straight forward question to answer, it will depend very much on the player. There will be many gaming factors which will come into play, which you will need to consider.

When you first start playing the game, you will have plenty on your plate to deal with e.g. setting up your game site, purchasing your buildings and upgrading them, purchasing your hangars and planes, ensuring you have sufficent fuel and passengers for flights, collecting flights items, undertaking standard flight destinations, gifting to your neighbours, visiting your neighbours game sites, setting up your space program and undertaking launch flights, setting up your helicopter base and undertaking flights, undertaking weather station flights, undertaking purple map flights, alliance weekly mission flights etc.

When you take these gaming aspects into consideration, you can begin to understand why it may perhaps be best to leave excavation map flights to much latter on in your game, when you are well established. It is important you do not overreach and/or overload yourself, long term patience is the key to the game of Airport City, without it you will not stay the course.

    Purchasing Airship Dock Building
Once you have made the decision to undertake these types of map flights, you will need to purchase the Airship Dock, which will become available from game level 9. It will cost you 3,000 coins to purchase the building and will have a construction period of 1 hour.

You will also need to obtain the following upgrade building gift items, from your neighbours and/or from flight drops, to complete the process and make the building solid and live. This process should not take too long, once you have indicated in your signature page, your gift need requirements from your neighbours. It will be a good idea to start collecting the gift items and have them in place, before you need to use them, this will save you time in the long run:

Building Upgrade Gift Items and Destinations
    Channel Bar x2
    - flight drops from Turkish Coast and Dubai
Handling Line x2 - flight drops from Goa and Moscow
Rope Block x2 - flight drops from Bali Island and New York
Sandbag x2 - flight drops from Bali Island and Paris

    Plane Types Required and Destinations
    Turboprop plane
    - Turkish Coast, Goa, Bali Island
Delta plane - Dubai, Moscow, New York, Paris
Airship Store Menu and In-Game Resource Store Menu
There will be two options available to you to purchase excavation maps, one will be through the airship store menu and the other will be through the in-game resource store menu. The main difference between these two is that the airship store will only be available twice a week, whereas the in-game resource store will always be available.

    Airship Store Menu
Once the building is solid and live, the airship will then be able to dock with the tower, and you will have access to the menu, by clicking on the airship and/or on the icon, located on the left hand side of your game screen. The airship will appear twice a week and will remain docked for almost a full day, during each visit.

Once the menu is open you will see five clickable information tabs, labeled All, Best Deal, Adventure, Bonus and Other. It will be the 3rd tab, labeled Adventure, which you will need to select to access all maps for sale. This tab will display a mixer of single maps and map sets.

The remaining four tabs will offer you other items for sale e.g. fuel, passengers, mystery buildings, bonus items, mystery bonus and space program resources, many of these items will come at a heavy price. The decision to purchase these items is not something you should rush into, many of them can be obtained for free through game play, but it will take time and patience to do so.

Airship Store Menu - Selecting Excavation Maps
With almost 100 map flight destinations to choose from it will be perhaps best to approach these flights in a systematic manner, by flying your first plane and completing all flights, collecting all rewards of coins, experience points and stars, before you move on to your next destination.

Airship Store Menu - Purchasing Excavation Maps
The excavation maps are unique to the game of Airport City because you will only be able to purchase them through the airship store, you will have three options to choose from:

    Purchase Options
    Single Excavation Map
    - this will cost you 2,000 coins to purchase one single map
Excavation Map Set - this will cost you 5 green notes to purchase a set, it will contain 20 items required for flights
Excavation Map Set - this will cost you 12 green notes to purchase a set, it will contain 3 random maps
Supplementary Information - there will be other types of maps available during game play, which you will be able to collect through the space program, and by being part of an alliance group. My reason for mentioning this here is to provide you with a more complete picture, as to the different types of maps available.

In-Game Resource Store Menu - Single Maps
These excavation maps can also be purchased through the store menu within your game, each of the excavation maps will cost you 1 green note to purchase, these are required for flights:

    Additional Reading Materials

There are a number of user guides, to be found within the Airport City Guides section of the members forum, two of the user guides will give you information on maps flights obtained through the Space Program and through being part of a successful alliance group. I would suggest you read through them, if you have not done so already.

@greensmith - since you are currently on duty I have sent this to you. I have just posted a new user guide, Excavation Map Flights and Plane Types Required on the members forum. If it is agreeable, sticky would be good. It will be easier for new players to find, when located towards the top. I'm hoping for feedback from forum members.

  9. Thanks for the guide. I thought about starting some excavations flying and bought 5 Mesoamerica flights (8000 coins airship store). Set up extra fuel and bonuses but each map only lasted for 1 flight. Moved flights to Quetzalcoatl Temple and map seems to last for 6 hours. Is this correct. I notice that the Mesoamerica map is marked 0/1 - no notation on the Temple map. Any clarification appreciated - Ta

You need Excavation Maps you can buy from the Airship Store to hunt for Adventure maps. Each Excavation Map allows one flight which will give a "seldom" chance to a map chest which in turn contains one of five Adventure Maps, at random. One Adventure Map, once activated, will be active for 6 hours and will drop one item for the adventure collection (with a "seldom" chance).

It is the collections that you want to complete, so for each of the five Adventure Map destinations (that can only be recovered by flying Excavation Maps) you'll want to drop an item to complete one collection (and six items per destination to get a building). Hope this helps and makes it more clear what the difference is.
