How to join launch?

Once you have a launchpad, you tap/click on it, then if you have enough items to do a launch, you can select "start your own" or, if your neighbours are in preparation for their own launch (generally called, "in [whatever colour] prep"), you can select to join their launch.

I would highly recommend joining others until you get a feel for it and work out how much resources/fuel it takes to launch solo. Check out the launch threads, see who is launching and maybe even send them a message with a neighbour request.

You need to decide which colour you want to join. (Green, Blue Red).
Click on your launch pad for the relevant colour.
You need to have enough launch preparations
You will then see a window with other launches you can join.
If there are none visible, visit a neighbour (Madlen). This will kick the GI server and show other launches in the window.
Click on the one you want to join and click "join".

You can only join launches if you are friends/neighbours of the launchee.
