the city from my phone game so I know which buildings etc I have.

Happened to me twice but that was over a year/s ago. Opened a complaint ticket after I played the level one game up until the point where you get your friend code.
Sent those two game codes to GI and they restored the game pretty quickly.
Same procedure when you want to transfer your old game to your new device. Good luck.
